I’m new to home care or waiting for a package

Step 1: Register with My Aged Care

How to get started with St Louis Support at Home.

My Aged Care is the national contact point for all government-subsidised aged care services, including the Support at Home program. To access funding, you first need to register with My Aged Care and get an assessment.

How to Register:
You (or a family member, with your permission) can register in two ways: call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422, or apply online on the My Aged Care website. The phone call usually takes about 15-20 minutes. They will ask for basic details (name, Medicare number, some health and living questions). If you prefer online, you fill in a form and they’ll call you back to complete the process.

St Louis Can Help:
If you’re unsure or uncomfortable contacting My Aged Care alone, we can assist you. With your consent, our team can be on the call with you, or even initiate a referral on your behalf. Just reach out to us and say you’d like help starting the process.

What Happens Next:
After you’re registered, My Aged Care will arrange an assessment (see Step 2). They’ll create a client record for you. It’s also a good idea at this stage to have a referral code for any interim services if needed but generally, the next step will kick in automatically.

Tip: When you call My Aged Care, let them know you’re interested in in-home support and mention any difficulties you’re facing (e.g., “I’m having trouble showering alone” or “I need help with meals and transport”). This helps them categorise your needs correctly. Don’t worry if you forget something, the assessor will cover it in detail later.
