Assistive Technology & Home Modifications

Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) will be funded through Australia’s new Support at Home program. These supports are designed to help older people remain safe, independent and comfortable in their own homes.
If you already receive a Home Care Package (HCP), your unspent funds can be used for AT-HM, and new participants or existing participants without unspent funds will have their eligibility determined through an aged care assessment.
Assistive Technology includes products and equipment that make daily living easier, such as:
- Mobility aids like walking frames or wheelchairs
- Bathing and toileting aids such as shower chairs or commodes
- Cognitive aids, including memory supports and medication reminders
Home Modifications are practical changes that improve safety and accessibility, such as:
- Installing ramps
- Widening doorways
- Adding grab rails and handrails
How to Access AT-HM
If you think you may benefit from Assistive Technology or Home Modifications, there are three key steps:
- Get Assessed: An aged care assessment determines whether you require AT-HM supports.
- Find a Provider: Once assessed, a provider like St Louis Home Care can help arrange the right products and modifications for your needs.
- Use Your Funding: Your approved supports will be funded within your Support at Home care plan.
